What animal is ideal for your child?
67
Your kids want a pet for weeks, months. But before choosing a pet, you should calmly assess the situation...
What place can you give him?
What budget will you spend?
What are the impacts on your daily life?
And what responsibilities do you have to give to children?
At first, remember that children's wishes, and good resolutions, are ephemeral. Of course, they want an animal and will commit to walk the dog, changing cat litter, feed the fish. But sometimes the deepest commitments only last so long. After, this probably is your responsibility. Is your schedule permits?
Also a question of money...
Another element to consider before you purchase a pet is your budget. You can buy a cat crossed without defined race. It will be cheaper to buy, but you should still feed him, maybe declawing, sterilizing. And if he's sick after a few years, will you afford to treat this animal to whom you and yours will be attached to?
...And space.
You must also consider the space. If your new dog needs for run, he probably will be bored on a balcony on the third floor. And adopt a big dog who lives in a tiny apartment is not the ideal selection. You will need to make an informed choice.
Holidays...
Before buying a pet, consider also the arrangements during vacation, weekends outside of the house. Who will care?
The dog...
Always Before choosing a dog, three
essential elements must be considered. Initially, you should never leave
a child under 10 alone with a dog. What the toddler Considers as a game
can be misinterpreted by the animal. He would then bite the child,
often in the arms or face. Everyone remembers seeing in the media, a
young disfigured by a "nice puppy".
There are dozens of breeds.
Please consult a professional to identify which one best suits your
family. Thus, a dog that looks happy and moves towards you, wagging his
tail, and leaves you, stroke him, without bite and wich you can raise
both hands under the chest for 30 seconds, without having to "fight".
Likely to be a good choice.
Nervous? If you're from nervous nature, a Jack Russell, too nervous, would not be the best pet.
Too big
- This sweet puppy with large paws seduces you excessively . It will
grow and could become cumbersome. Think before. Choose a large animal
when the housing or the residence is already congested will be a further
irritant, once the animal became adult.
For girls: choose a Scottish terrier, a Maltese, a bearded collie or an Afghan hound, as space permits.
For boys: they will appreciate more a Bernese mountain dog, a Samoyed, an English setter or a dalmatian.
The Cat..
More independent in nature, the cat seems a good compromise. But again, you must evaluate several criteria.
Claws
: These little critters have claws that they use both on the furniture
on the arms, hands and sometimes the face of a child. If you choose a
house cat, he will perhaps best declawed ...
Character :
Like dogs, different breeds of cats have specific characteristics.
Siamese, for example, are generally unstable and capricious mood. Like
dogs, they have only one master that they will not hesitate to defend
the time comes. And it's very impressive!
Clean: More
cleaner, cats can even leave their litter, if it's not cleaned, at least
once a week. You will need to show him where to defecate, where to
feed, find a place to allow him to scratch (if not declawed). In short,
you need to spend time with your pet.
Sterilization : And
if it's a female cat and she goes outside, the sterilization would be a
good idea. This prevents the lamentations during the period of fertility
and repeated pregnancies.
Rodents and birds...
Your child is aged six to twelve years. A rodent might well excite. But again, you should choose.
Pig And Rabbit:
These pets are loving, in general, and allow themselves to handle
without too much fuss. They also love to snuggle against humans.
However, we should be take care of their claws and teeth, in addition to
brushing.
The Korean squirrel, hamsters and chinchillas:
They are not suitable for young children. The first can bite very easily
while the second is activated usually at night. The third, however, has
a tendency to live in hiding.
Ferrets: Finally, ferrets, very independent, more suitable for adolescents and adults.
Birds: If they can just brighten up a house, they are also less attractive to children.
Again, you should clean the cage of your pet at least twice a week and feed him.
And Fish...
They
don't make noise, but they still require maintenance. For young
children, a jar containing one or two fish will do it. But the child
will bored, especially since he can not cajole the fish. For adolescents
and adults, an aquarium stocked will be much more interesting. Again,
you must feed them and clean the aquarium.
Are You Ready?
You said "yes" to a pet. Your offspring takes care, for better or worse. Be aware that this presence offers reassurance to the child, if he finds himself alone at home. It also allows him to develop his sense of responsibility, in addition to gaining confidence in him.

What a wonderful, informative hub! I don't have kids, but my goal is to someday live on a property (i.e., the day I stop renting!) where I can have all the pets I've wanted since I was a kid myself. This has really gotten me thinking about all the options.
